Subject: RE: Which seed company is king of alfalfa??

About 25 years ago I made my first planting of alfalfa. I don't remember who I bought the fancy seed from, but it was pelatized and twice as expensive as varieties I bought from Albert Lea Seedhouse. I planted three or four varieties that year. At harvests I could not tell the difference between them by yield, sometimes I could by flower color when I was harvesting a bit late. One variety I noticed in the fall took a couple degrees colder temperature before it changed color and went dormant.

One year I bought some cheap seed from a local dealer and seed grower. I asked for one that would grow great in one year and winter kill. He filled my sack and took my money. It didn't grow lush and didn't winter kill. And the corn after it wasn't all that great because it didn't leave lots of nitrogen behind. I think he was one who had a single variety on hand, but would claim it did anything the buyer wanted.
