Similar conditions here. Quite a bit of my non cover cropped notill ground had a severely compacted top crust that was ~1" thick. On the days it would dry the crust out you could break it open and expose the pure mud that was just under it. You had to stab it pretty good to get the surface broke open. The only explanation I could figure was all the rain we've had. I'm wondering how it will affect moisture absorption later this summer, if it ever does actually dry out. |
