Just outside downtown Prairie Hill | We made the decision to prevent plant some of our ground intended for soybeans. This ground will go to corn in 2016. It has a current cover of rye. Rye was broadcast and is a decent stand tho a little thin, scattered and mature. It would not yield much, but probably much more than a planting rate. We intend on putting some NH3 down this fall. My question is what to do now for a cover crop? I am thinking of planting only radishes. I would like to kill the volunteer rye early next year so it does not tie up our N or ding up the baby corn plants. What do you guys think? There is plenty of prevent plant ground around here. I would sure like some discussion of how to best use this situation for those of us in a normal corn/soybean rotation. The other question is how to kill the existing waterhemp and marestail in an economical fashion? Thanks for you thoughts. |
