Subject: cover crop in prevent plant going to corn

Just outside downtown Prairie Hill
We made the decision to prevent plant some of our ground intended for soybeans. This ground will go to corn in 2016. It has a current cover of rye. Rye was broadcast and is a decent stand tho a little thin, scattered and mature. It would not yield much, but probably much more than a planting rate. We intend on putting some NH3 down this fall. My question is what to do now for a cover crop? I am thinking of planting only radishes. I would like to kill the volunteer rye early next year so it does not tie up our N or ding up the baby corn plants. What do you guys think? There is plenty of prevent plant ground around here. I would sure like some discussion of how to best use this situation for those of us in a normal corn/soybean rotation. The other question is how to kill the existing waterhemp and marestail in an economical fashion? Thanks for you thoughts.
