| The Japanese beetle does not eat at night but your corn silks grow out the husk at a rate of 1/4 to 1/2" each day; even at night your corn pollinates while the beetles are dormant.
About 25 or 30 years ago I noticed a severe infestation of my pollinating corn, even out in the line rows. Looked just like your photo. Called the plane and had it sprayed the next morning. Didn't realize until I got the bill 2 weeks later that the wind came up and the 1/2 of the 40 acres next to town did not get sprayed. To make a long story short, in spite of all my worrying that summer, there was NO yield difference in the treated and untreated parts of the field. They both yielded very well. | |
