Boron can only be taken up by corn roots. Not the leaves. I hope matt jumps in here. I Well, actually the corn leaves do take up B well enough -- but none of it is translocated to new growth, nor to grain. Gotta have root uptake for that. (But you get points for understanding the basic lesson that it needs to be root uptake!) Soil B levels can be fairly high, but in cool & overly wet conditions, uptake will still be poor. Of course, if soils are very low in B, the situation is worse. Or if anything is restricting root growth. |
