Clark SD | You are asking the wrong person as how to grow consistently high yield and high protein spring wheat. We don't have a yield goal in mind, we just take what mother nature will give us. What we do is put about 70 lbs 11-52-00 with a little potash at seeding as a starter and top dress with about 150 lbs urea(46-0-0) later on. This year it was applied about 5/29. The following pictures shows the growth stage about the time of application. We normally get about 40 to 45 bu. per acre but last year had some in the mid 80's. Spring wheat seems to thrive under cooler conditions. The boy's up in ND on this site could give you some pointers, i hope they will chime in.
