It is the point at which elongation of the plant occurs. It starts below the ground and progresses up the plant as it grows. Split a plant and it is easily found, it is a pointed area that stays below the ground until it is about 3-4 leaves in size. If the growing point is damaged or frozen, the plant will usually die.
