If your planting early I would say yes, it pays. otherwise I like it as a maintenance program. The last couple of years I have reduced my rate from 5 gal. to 4 gal. per acre. 20% reduction and I don't think I'm seeing a yield difference and possibly a bit better stand? I'm wondering if the 5 gallon rate may have been hurting the germination just a little? Too many variables to know for sure. Weather, different planter and etc. I would say you want to put in a half lb. of zinc with the 10-34-0. Seems to be a synergy there that benefits both.

^^^This. We run 4gallon in furrow and it pays in our usually cold silt loams. Definitely need zinc in there. But I am looking at possibly using something like Schafferts Y-Not for their rebounders that we run to get the fertilizer off to the side to minimize damage to seedlings.
