Texas/New Mexico Stateline | To the original question, yes, $30 for a broker assisted trade is pretty good. Some are higher yet.
Discount "do it yourself" brokerages are in the $5-$10 range as mentioned.
If you are totally comfortable with making 100% of the decisions on your own the discount brokerages can save you a lot of commission, but a real live broker might keep you from making a big mistake.
Edit: I'm not clear what kind of service you are getting, but if you are picking up the phone and talking to a live person to trade the $30 is probably pretty normal.
