central wi | I have planted pearl millet for the past 2 years as a cover crop. It is supposed to have some bio fumigates qualities to it. Seeding about 17#/acre makes a nice cover and we have cut and baled some and the cows love it. I don't let it head out. I was told to chop it it to promote good root growth. I did that the first year but not this year because it was cool and wet after I seeded it. I seeded it after single crop canning peas. "Here" I wouldn't plant it after the 15th of August because I don't believe there would be enough growth. | |
