rule of 72 is for figuring compound interest return.
A 4% investment return is simply 4% of original investment, nothing is compounded over time for that figure.
Example:
$1000.00 investment @4%/yr return equals $40.00/yr.
takes 25 yrs to get your original $1k back (that is assuming you always get the $40 bucks each year)
