Thanks Buford LOL. I basically put 60 or so Oct-Dec calving cows together to raise calves on rye this winter. If they raise a nice calf, have a decent udder, a few teeth, and breed back to calve next fall I'll keep them around on grass all summer. I hope this girl is one of them. My feed costs are low. If she raises a nice calf she can be a paid for keeper. I'm hoping raising calves on rye/ryegrass January through May is a big competitive advantage.Then we have fresh spring grass May to July. By the way. We had 60 acres of grass rented this year. But someone has given us 50 more acres for free and I just got a call from a real estate agent that a 40 acre parcel that's for sale, owners lost their Ag exemption and need some cows on it. So might be in there pretty cheap too. So I will need some bred cows this summer to eat all this future grass. And its awfully hard to buy them profitably during the summer.
