There are any number of irrigation projects that are no more for salt build up. There are a good number of irrigation locations where there is natural drainage.
I believe the Lower Rio Grande River irrigation projects have a drainage system put in for the salt accumulation to go. Some how I believe in parts of California they also have a drainage collection system.
I suspect if I were to put in an irrigation system on my deep clay soils I might need a series of tile drains plus a sump and pump system.
