I'm far from being a welding expert, but last time I did hardsurfacing I got hold of some Messer Welding MG 790 rods. I used them on my inline ripper points. They've been over 100+ acres/point and still have a LOT of life left to them. I covered the entire surface of the points plus the sides of the point nose and two passes under each side of the wings. It took a lot of time and ~10 lb of rods but was a lot cheaper than buying another set of points.
