Whether they do now or not I do not know but in the past I certainly believe that they have been in that situation.
Here's why I believe they were short on physical beans (its hard to make paper into meal) vs the booked meal. Not sure what year it was but it was around this time frame we had beans in the bin and hogs to feed. Usual scenario is haul a load of beans in and a load of meal back. One problem, the processor wouldn't sell me any meal. They wanted the beans bad enough to have a $2.50+ basis but absolutely would not sell any meal at any price. Not even to a guy that is bringing in a load of beans.
Luckily we had enough meal on hand and a little booked through another source to get by almost to the day that the new beans started to come and both the bean and meal prices dropped substantially.
