Did you move Hydralic control lever from on/run to float/ neutral, or did you move it to closed/stop? You must never move it to stop/closed from running. The sudden stop of Hydralic oil going thru hydralic motor causes a sudden stop of hydralic motor/spay pump and can/will cause damage to pump/motor. Learned this the hard way on our first sprayer. Not sure exactly what broke in sprayer pump/hyd drive motor but service tech put a whole new pump/hyd motor on it under warranty, luckily.
Split product pump housing and inspect impeller. It should not spin freely, nor should the shaft it is bolted/keyed to if you have Hydralics in closed/off position.

Its a pump. The impeller has a force working against it when its spinning. Its not going to want to freewheel like the vacuum fan on a planter. We never put the pump on our sprayer in float and haven't had a problem in 15+ years.
