Embarrass WI | So, how do "most farmers" keep their equipment running, if their fuel is so bad?
I used to do custom work, I tried to set my rates at the beginning of the year and stay at those rates for the year. When fuel prices were all over the map some years it became difficult to budget. I had another custom guy tell me that he wasn't in the fuel business. Having the customer supply the fuel accomplishes a couple things-the custom guy doesn't have to haul fuel around, if the customer was able to lock in a good price on fuel he gets that advantage, and it makes the custom guy's rate look better as well as never being on the hook for fuel on top of everything else if the farmer doesn't pay.
In our area, basically all custom work is "plus fuel".
