Soil aggregate stability

I went out into the field at the house. 3 years of notill and cover crop last year. The rye is just starting to show signs of starting to green up.

The other is soil I reclaimed from a pond on my farm in the drought of 2012. I left the soil sit in a pile until I grabbed a sample today.

Both are grundy soil type. From the same 80 acres.

Kinda helps a guy see first hand why keeping roots in the soil is important to help keep soil where we want it.
