I would change the points and condeser and proboby plugs and wires. also check the distibutor cap, timing, is the timing advance working properly.
I had a tractor act up this spring and it was a prblem in the timing. the vacuum advance wasn't working at mid range RPMs idle and open throttle it was ok. I would take a good hard look at the ignition system.
Engine problems on JD3300, any thoughts?
