We don't have pvc w/air, but I don't think it's a problem if it's buried under dirt/rocks/concrete. If it shrapnelizes, who will know it? Now, when you come ABOVE ground with the pvc, you'd probably want to put it inside plastic tile or something. I personally think the guys using 3" pvc might be overkilling, but who can argue w/success?
