Depending on the soil type, as long as its packed properly you should be able to build right away. Its usually best to scrape away the black dirt or loose sandy top soil and replace it with clay and pack it in layers to get up to the final grade. That's what the contractors and builder told us. Block walls need a better footing along the whole length of the building versus poles that need solid support where the holes are and they are usually augered down at least 4 or 5'. Locate your poles away from any tree stumps is a good idea. We removed all trees that are within falling distance of the perimeter of the shed, too.
