Last time that happened we lit up a couple of propane weed burners and threw them on the bare ground a few feet in front of the fan. The fan draft pulled in the warmer air/exhaust and that was enough to thaw out the slide.
That probably won't work if its really cold out, but made a world of difference when we tried it.
