Subject: Re weather extremes not only a western S.D. thing

n.c.iowa

there marky we used to have a robust cow calf business here in northern iowa, not on the scale that the western guys do but still something worthy of note, until we had a string of weather events in the middle 70's-early 80's that pretty much wiped out the cow calf guys, granted there were other things that contributed to this also, but it was the main factor.don't remember the exact year but i think it was '74 we had a 3 day blizzard that killed thousands of cattle in our neck of the woods.the thing here is that we are pretty open, but usually the cattle around here never get more than a mile from home, should be alot easier to round them up here than in out west, and they still lost a bunch of cattle in those years to bad winter weather.
