Gooseneck, or my uncle used to call it "the big knuckle" because it looked like a big man's finger curled down.

They used to have a rig to use when it was too deep. It was some v-shaped attachments about 6" wide? that run on each row to knock a little dirt off. I remember them using them back in the 1980s when it was wet a lot. They would plant a little too deep, get a rain, and out would come the attachments. Seems like they had some limited success with them.
