Our experience with it was that it made the drill box smell terrible and don't think it did a lot of good. would fill the drill and use turpentine on half of it nothing on other half.. the hope was to keep the seed corn maggots out till the crop was big enough to fend for itself. this was beans.It didn't affect germination. This was five years ago or so.
 Some studies that it will keep cowbirds from pulling seed if thats a problem.. Don't know how it would fit into a organic situation.
 Years ago they were always offering a less valuable food to keep to keep the seed intact. The problem with the bean meal is may attract all the pests to one spot. As long as what your putting on kills them it's great. Problem comes if it doesn't,then they work on seed.
  Never ending battle. They used to inject bags of seed corn with turpentine.
