When 500's were shipped they were setup to NOT engage on the AB line. This setting was almost always changed by the operator. At first I thought that possibly this was your problem but as I read further I'm not so sure. The beeping and especially the firmware number are puzzling. Possibly a hard reset might heal it up.
Trimble 500 won't engage.
