Swath control will work without boundaries.
A recorded boundary will produce a field total acre count, which then fills in the acres (?) left to finish the field as well as the time (?) required to finish the field. Those numbers are handy at times so I have boundaries recorded on most of the fields. And yes, the outside pass must then be done with swath control disabled.
