The problem is, it becomes a popularity contest then.   I've seen sites where two people could post the same thing and one would get a bunch of thumbs up, and the other would get a bunch of thumbs down.   Everyone here has a few people that they've rubbed the wrong way so a like/dislike system could get ugly in a hurry.   

This way works.   At least it works good enough for me.
