| I noticed it too, I think it's probably for the reason you mention.
Probably to block some of these Youtube add-ons that would force full buffering, hide annotations by default, select a default resolution, you know, the basic features that Youtube should have. I wouldn't be surprised if these add-ons already found a way to break this buffering limitation.
I was using one a few years back that delayed auto-play, don't remember the name.

I am also using a Youtube video downloader on Firefox ("Flash Video Downloader"), for videos I want to keep or watch as a podcast when I am not online, or when I want to rip the audio track to add to my MP3 player. It's more comfortable to watch offline, especially for long movies, which reset every once in a while or something goes wrong. If there is no such thing for Chrome, there are apps that do the same, supporting more Flash sites than just Youtube. I always try to limit the number of apps I install, as they are a bigger potential source of malware than Firefox add-ons with high user reviews. | |
