The old thread is way down the page, so I moved this to the top.

Just a note for those who need to use bifocals. I have had 4 sets of progressive bifocals at the insistence of my optometrist, and have not been happy with any of them.
My last pair of Progressive lenses are only two months old. My field of distance vision was so narrow and I could not read through the bottom "close lenses." I insisted we do another eye test to see if we got it wrong or if my eye that had gloucoma and cataract surgery 4 months ago had changed.
Nope, my perscription is the same, but the optometrist was puzzled ? Through his little "test " glasses with interchangable lenses, I could read just fine at 16 inches , but through my progressive bifocals, the same printing was just fuzzy black lines. He thought the lense grinder screwed up or it is hard to grind progressive lenses into my small lenses which are only about 1.5 X 2 inches. I nearly had to arm wrestle the guy to get him to try something else.
After 4 failures of the progressive lenses. I insisted we order "old style" bifocals with the two distinct lenses ground into them.

Got the new lenses this afternoon, and WOW , they work !!!.
The progressive lenses distorted the image so much that the outer 1/4 of each "distance" lens was useless. With me with vision only in the left eye, I could only see my lane clearly while driving. Now with the "old style" bifocals, my field of vision is clear all the way to the edge of the lense, I now see both lanes and both ditches clearly.
Also I could never read through the bottom of any of those 4 sets of progressive bifocal lenses. With the new set of "old style" bifocals, the computer screen or printed material is clear at 16 inches distance. Me happy :)
