| Ed asked for more specific information so here goes.....keep in mind these soils tend to be very shallow natured due to low Ca parent material and abundance of Al and Fe...enough Mg to support slight to moderate acidity.....in botttomland timbered soil 20% Ca saturations are not uncommon with lime rates of 6000-8000 lbs needed initially. Productive soil textures roughly....50% silt, 30% sand, 20% clay. 90% of tree roots are no deeper than 18". Low phosphate availability a common problem....moderate potassium levels. Pan evaporation rates are high at around 70" per the maps. Combine shallow soils with high pan evaporation and spotty summer rain and plant drought stress is common in summer. The most common crop is pasture, both tame and native, with cow-calf operations. Bermudagrass is a common WSG while annual ryegrass, cheat, downy brome, and resuce grass comprise the CSG forages. Predominant NWSG is big bluestem, little blue, broomshedge blue and indian grass.....not much switchgrass....instead TC pannicum, scribners pannicum, and in favorable years purple top tridens. Most productive/balanced ecosystems tend to be diverse woodland and savannah communities under proper grazing management/deferral. NWSG stocking rates of 10-15 ac per AU.....improved grass stocking rates of 1-5 ac / AU. The major small grains do well here, but persistance of forage legumes tends to be low, excepting hop clovers and striate lespedezas.
Productive bottomland silt loams (5.8% of 640 ac, a section):
Rexor and Verdigris silt loam......alluvium.....a breeze to dig a post hole 5-6'....few stones...occasional inundation....moderate to slow drainage...high quality and quantity native plant potential....can be greenbriar infested.....excellent wildlife habitat...indian wood oat, carolina snail seed, and giant ragweed indicator plants of tree canopy status. Fescue a common improved forage and bermuda will also do well, but most of this I keep in native vegetation.

Productive upland soil types....can have drainage issues.....variable stoniness.....some large boulders....eroded....very good pasture soils:
Dennis silt loam (1.6% of section).....suitble for some row crop...variable bedrock depth
https://soilseries.sc.egov.usda.gov/OSD_Docs/D/DENNIS.html
Bates-Coweta complex.....areas of Bates fine sandy loam types tend to be very productive.....moderate to very stony....(2.3% of section)....suitable for some row crop...variable bedrock depth

Coweta

Talahina-Eram-Collinsville complex 5-20% slopes.....marginal tame pasture (class VI soil) but most was converted to tame pasture in the 1900s....higly suited for woodland NWSG community maintained with fire....very very stony on side slopes...a very common series for good ponds.....a good series for roadbed shale excavation (free pond)......(15.9% of section).....shallow bedrock limitation

Bengal-Clebit-Clearview complex 5-30% slopes.....class VII.....rough ass country mainly in stunted thick hardwood timber.....very very stony...very thin gravely loam....highly weathered and erodable....typical eastern crosstimbers ecosystem with post oak, blackjack oak, mockernut hickory, black hickory, and winged elm.....best maintained with fire and thinning for woodland and savannah habitat.....60+ plant specie diversity possible under good management and growing conditions.....excellent wildlife habitat if tree canopy is not closed....eastern red cedar can become problematic invader.......(73.3% of section). I call this soil series 'home' because it constitues most of our burn/thin units! LOL Permanent water source often a limitation....some seeps.....shallow bedrock common.
