Subject: RE: Military pilots.......farmers now?

Local farmer and realtor served in WWII as a pilot. He flew B-24 Liberators over "the Hump" in the China-Burma-India Theatre of operations. Later, he few F-80 and F-84 interceptors. He had flown on almost every bomber since WWII, with the exception of the B-52. He told of once flying aboard the B-36 Peacemaker, for what I think he said, was a 16 hour mission.

Back in the 70's and 80's, B-52's flew under radar, directly over our farm. I can remember looking up on one ocaision and seeing the rivets of the aircraft. Awesome planes...you could see them miles away, as a cloud of exhaust would appear. We had a pit bull terrier, who was deaf, who would sit in one corner of the field as dad and I worked. When the B-52 would appear, he would chase after it. One of the funniest things I'd ever seen.

Once in awhile, FB-111 Aardvarks would fly over. I can remember once seeing one do a 360 barrel roll over the house.

Every so often a group of Hueys or AH-1 Cobra gunships would fly in formation, and I recall a few times seeing a CH-47 Chinook.
