Driftless SW Wisconsin

A lot of parents don't give a hoot - but why? Maybe that's because thats the way they were raised....and the cycle continues except the spiral downward gets larger creating bigger and bigger gaps in society. Early childhood education can help to break the cycle. The younger you can teach kids the higher probability of success, as most parents learn. You have to do your job in the early years. It gets MUCH tougher to change kids later.

Technical education is another asset which we are consuming and not replacing.

I just use education that as one example - repairing crumbling highway bridges is another useful expense which increases our country's asset base rather than burning it up or pissing it away, cutting corners on things that build the country's long term wealth while we squander billions on things that do not build our human or physical asset base.

The idea of somehow arming yourself and loading up with peanut butter and crackers discussed on this page sounds very much like the futility of digging and equipping a backyard "fallout shelter" as they used to call them in the 60's. We sink or swim together in world wide economics much as we do in unthinkable nuclear warfare.

jmho.
