Depends what moisture you're shrinking down to. If shrinking to 15.5%, then there are 47.32 # of dry matter (85% of 56 = 47.32). 56# divided by 47.32 = 1.184.
If shrinking to 14.0%, then there are 48.16 # of dry matter in a bushel (reducing moisture to 0%). That shrink = 1.16. You can get corn to 0.0% in a microwave, if you're careful!!!! I don't think the true shrink numbers are arguable. They're just simple math. Grain has so much dry matter & so much water...that's it.
Those are true shrinks. The elevators use 1.4 shrink to recapture some mechanical loss. |
