Was there once when I was a young lad and worked as a floor runner for mlpf&smith. Was an experience that helped in marketing and still does. Although with electronic trading the runners have probably been replaced by now. Still was and exciting thing to run out there find the right guy with seconds to go before the bell . The biggest orders at the time were 500. taking one of those to the pits was only entrusted to those runners who had some experience and could make it through the tangle of brokers waving and shouting. being a second to late was as bad as being early. Most big trades were started at the last second so they could be finished later. Something I didn't appreciate till years later.
