north central indiana | Planted mine june 21 and got a .20 rain then nothing for 9 days then that was half inch totaling almost inch in june. Lost some to drought and had to replant part of the hills. Red clay was alright but the lighter white hills lost a little. Spotted some on hills july 22 of my dealers plot beans he had leftover. Put some 93-24,93-43,93-73 and some 93-82. Going to see what bean does the best of the newer varieties. Try to see which one fully matures before a frost planting that late on tough ground. I put 93-20 out on the majority of field cause they always do best and tried some 93-82 on about a third of it cause they did okay planting late last year too. I've got a crop just isn't as thick as I like it. I've had 5.5 inches of rain on them so far and wish it was thicker canopy. I could have waited and got the 1/4 inch rain the 21 and planted the next day but none of them would have germinated next day of measly .20 . I wanted to get them out before the solstice just to say I did once. If I could do it again I would have waited 1 day and planted and they would have been planted deep and emerged the 29/30 june with the rain. Either way I've seen the 3-20 make 33 bpa at 180000 in 2010 that really had a final stand of prob 150000. I've always heard each day you wait after june 15 is one bushel each day off your average yields. So in theory I planted 21 so 6 bushels less than average for us would be 54 bpa. I lost 15 bpa off the top with crappy emergence. So if I get over 30 I will be happy. If the beans do great at lower population and space out like they are I might bump pop back next year to 220000 shooting for 200000 final stand.
