Zabcikville, TX | I was an A,D,D child. Still am, my mind is usually going a thousand directions at the same time. Some of it is important (I wonder if the truck payment check got there) some of it no important (look at that squirrell, wonder how old it is. Yes, some is that minor) I have a twin brother who always did the "right" thing. Obeyed the first time being told, good grades, etc. My parents tried the punishment thing (fussing, time out, spanking, toys taken away) didn't seem to help. My mind just worked differently. Don't be afraid to see a Dr. a ask questions. Your (her) pediatrician can steer you in the right direction to getting her tested. It was difficult on my parents to say the least. Patience, patience, patience! I took the ritalin for a few years and it did calm me down and help me focus. It also made me feel like I couldn't be good on my own, so I had to take medicine just to be still. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say your daughter is a very smart little girl. Get an IQ test done also. I was born in 74, medicines may have changed and the way doctors treat or help children I'm sure has changed. Talk to your doctor first. I remember being a kiddo, all the spankings in the world wasn't going to change my way of thinking, it just wasn't. BTW, my IQ is 126. Your daughter is NOT crazy, or bad, or stupid. She just thinks and learns differently. I would ask the doc if their are things you can do before starting the medicine. Therapy, counseling maybe. Throwing a pill at it will only make your daughter feel bad about herself, at least that's how I felt. My # is 254-721-6641 if you wanna talk about it some more. John | |
