N FLA | I dug some root pits today to look at the tillage Radish I planted on Sep 5 in North Florida. This was 3 lbs of radish and 15 lbs of Sun hemp in alternating rows in a drill behind corn. The radish started to flower on Monday, and I dont want future weed problems, although it could be a reseeding cover crop. Anyway, had some big knockers, and they all had good size. Real happy with the program. Not real thrilled with having bare ground the next 60 days, so will have to think about how to handle that in the future. The highlight, we idend some psocids loaded up on their fibrous roots. These are beneficial insects( barklice) that apparently breakdown vegetation and other insects. Wonder if any of you are familiar with them. I just learned about them today.
