Subject: Re: Will Glonass help with WAAS accuracy?

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
The Trimble RTX scenario includes a temporary unlock for Glonass. I demo'd a CFX-750 with a temporary RTX unlock that included the Glonass unlock. This did increase the number of sats being received.

I did not drive the rig in real field conditions during the test period. One of my partners used it to haul hog manure from a dooryard to a somewhat distant field. This required driving through a tree lined area shortly before getting to the field. It is my understanding that due to the trees, GPS dropped out even with Glonass and the system did not recover by the time he reached the point of application.

I believe that he felt that straight WAAS was actually better in this situation than RTX. The addition of GLONASS did not make the situation worse but the RTX did not recover quickly enough. This is not a typical field situation so any conclusions from this very limited testing may not apply to more conventional tillage or planting scenarios.
