Bandwidth for phone internet and bandwidth for any other device is one in the same. That is like saying that using 100 watts of electricity to illuminate a light bulb is okay but then have the electric company tell you that using 100 watts of electricity to listen to your radio is not okay.
If you don't have a contract or go month by month, then the overall monthly limit or ceiling would be the defining factor. Whether you surf the internet up to the limit using your phone or do it from a tethered laptop or netbook makes no difference.
If you signed a contract stating that you wouldn't attach other devices then live up to your word or vote with your feet and cancel your contract and go spend your dollar on services that support how you want to use your communication device(s).
I agree, bandwidth is bandwidth, and unless you're exceeding a contractual cap, I don't think the carrier "should" care how you use it. But they do, because they can. Your last sentence is where the ethical piece comes into play. |
