Subject: Ethics question - regarding tethering

Free tethering seems to be one of the biggest reason people will root their Androids or jailbreak their iPhones. Now, I personally don't have an opinion on this one way or another other than when asked, advise against it since carriers seem more motivated to crack down on it recently. BUT, having read threads on other boards here on NAT regarding copper, tool, machinery, and gas thefts and the understandable opinion of such thieves, how does one justify the "theft" of cellular bandwidth? It could give the appearance of a double standard. Again, I'm not judging those who engage in this, but wanted to see what others have to say about this and their justification for it.
