Brian, you have discovered one of the ways to display pics on this forum -- that is you upload them to this server. When you do that, you cannot insert text below or beside them.

The other way is for you to store your pics on a server that is always accessible to Internet users. Photo sharing websites or even the small amount of space that most ISPs provide subscribers for their own web space is a good way to do this. Once you have the pics stored there, then while composing your message while using our HTML editor, click the small picture of the tree at the top of the composing window and enter the web address for the picture you want to add at that point in your message. The picture will then be treated just like a letter you may type in your message. You can enter text before or after the pic, and add more pics, or even add pics one after another without hitting the enter key and they will end up side-by-side in your message.
