Subject: Re: Harvest in West Aussie

Darling Downs, Queensland, Australia
Nearly two thirds through our wheat in southern Queensland. To say its a disappointment would be an understatement. Was expecting about 3t/ha but will be closer to 1.8t/ha. Crops are yielding nowhere near what they look with head blight seemingly the cuase of the problems. Wheat is light (70 t/w) high in screenings (15%) and very high in protein (16%).

This crop has had about 14 inches this growing season when we would normally hope for about 2 or 3" to get us a decent crop. Far far too much moisture this year has knocked the stuffing out of this crop. Have heard of barley in various areas of SQ that is extremely light in test weight (45-50) with very high screenings greater than 50%.

If these issues spread south as harvest progresses people are in for a nasty surprise. Good luck and thank god we can grow summer crops up here....
