SCIL, (South of 16) | I built a pole barn house/shop in '04. It is 50X60, the house is the front 30X50 with an 8.5' ceiling and the shop is the rear 30X50 with 16' ceiling. The shop is small and was only intended to be temporary untill I could afford a larger one which was built in '09, so now I have an extremely large garage and place to tinker. It is very attractive IMHO and I love living in it, with one exception, living in a metal building on a slab makes me nervous when the tornado warnings are out. I was single when I built it, so it didn't really bother me then. In 06, 4 mo. after getting hitched a tornado took our bins at the end of the lane 1/2 mile away while my wife and I watched from the house, and the only place we had to run to was a interior closet. Now with kids in the equation I am adding on to the house and putting a basement under it. Be sure to make some plan for a storm shelter.
