NE Indiana | It all depends on where you live and what yields you can get, but 'round here:
N - 90 lbs of 28-0-0 at $190/ton $31/acre
P-K 200lbs 9-23-30 $62/acre
Seed 120 lbs/acre at $14/50 lbs $34/acre (public varieties treated with fungicide are around $14 for 50 lbs here)
Fuel $8/acre
Machinery $30/acre
Land costs $100/acre (plug in your number here)
$299/acre
You can quibble over those numbers, but that's pretty representative for me.
'round here you can figure 70 bu/acre on average. 40 in a bad year, 100 in a good
I can contract wheat at harvest at $6.20 for July 2011 today
So 70 bu/acre *6.20 dollars/bu - $299/acre costs = $135 dollars/acre (oh yeah, the units balanced! I paid attention in school.)
That's how you make money buying wheat seed | |
