ND | I'm guessing for some guys the local markets play a big part. In 2008 I paid like $22/ bushel for wheat seed...I thought it was friking crazy but w/ the grain markets guys were getting it pretty easily.
The last two years I was able to wheat seed for $1.50-$2.00 over market price which was a no brainer for me. I didn't have to deal with the hassle of keeping seed around, handling it, cleaning it, etc. I just pulled at his place when I needed the seed and he loaded it out for me.
Edit: I was going to mention that I've already delivered my 2010 wheat crop to the terminal, so if seed prices go ape $hit for 2011, I won't lose any sleep moving those acres into corn or beans.
