What I've found & do.

I created another file in OE called "Old Inbox stuff". I leave emails that are 60 days current in my active Inbox (the one I receive mail in daily). Then, every 30 days or so, I highlight all the "older" emails & drag them over to the OLD INBOX file. However, I recently found that when the OLD INBOX got up to 54,700 messages, it would not accept any more emails. If I tried to highlight & drag even ONE email into, I got a message saying "error occurred, could not move message...". So, I assumed it was "full". I created another file called OLD INBOX 2. I can now drag thousands of emails into that one successfully also.

Maybe a "here" thing.
