Subject: RE: Goss' wilt in NC IA

Panhandle of Ne.
Can it overwinter in soybean residue?
There was quite a bit in this area last year, but it was on c on c and planted into strip till. The agronomists were saying that it overwintered in the old corn stubble and when it rained, it splashed the spores off of the stubble onto the new plant. They also said they were seeing it much more in strip till on continuous corn ground. Friend of mine got it in a 20 acre patch when corn was about 5 inches tall and it continued to die all summer long. That patch only made 25 bpa. This was on a hybrid that was supposed to have a high tolerance to the wilt.
