Subject: Re: Notebooks

When I am looking to buy a new computer, I go and look at reviews of the computer. For a laptop, I would look at this web site first - http://www.pcworld.com/products/computers/laptops.html . From this page you can narrow down the information quickly. Then I go to http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,2806,9,00.asp and look around. Then I go look at this information for an overview of each computer company - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2006499,00.asp So after getting an idea of laptop and company types, then I go to amazon.com and newegg.com and look at the reviews for all laptoops. I don't read any reviews into consideration from these sites unless there is at least 20 or more reviews. It takes that many reviews to get some good and bad reviews. Then I look at all the reviews because sometimes a person puts a review on a laptop that has nothing to do with the actual hardware. Then I google the laptop information with the work gripe or review at the end of the search item. If there are a lot of negative problems, I take that information into consideration. Also, look at when the review was posted. I start looking at the more recent information, because companies sometime make revisions to the laptop number. I also go to cnet.com and other review sites to find reviews. Most of the time the google will take me to that information. I find that if you are looking at the cheapest computer, then add $50-100 and you will a lot better performing machine for a few dollars more. You could change laptop to desktop, dsl router, etc and the process is the same, just different websites. Letting google search for things is the best way to drill down through a lot of websites. I am going through this process to find my mom a computer for her internet, email, etc.
