I think you need an unbiased, experienced contractor to advise you before you make any settlement. Anyone hired by the roofer or his insurance co wouldn't do in my mind. Be careful with any paperwork or intermediate settlement checks. I've seen insurance cos. try to trick people with fine print on supposedly innocuous documents and expense checks.
